Can I Lay Laminate Flooring On Top Of Carpet
The reason underlays are used is to grip the carpet as well as to provide comfort and support and kept firmly in place with grippers or glue all designed in mind to stop carpet slip which may occur when laying over smooth surfaces as lino laminate and tiles.
Can I Lay Laminate Flooring On Top Of Carpet. As much as you want to cut down costs on a new floor this is not the way to do it. Its a myth that. Your place deserves gorgeous floors.
Installing laminate flooring over carpet underlayment will do more harm than good in the long run. Prevent mold from growing under your carpet by allowing the laminate floor to dry first before laying the carpet. With that as a starting piont if you were going with xps foam and you were to put down 30 psi or greater it should be ok I would think.
Ill tell you right now it didnt all go as planned. It is important to remember that a high quality underlayment will still better serve your flooring than low-pile carpet overall. Bored with the dark bland low-pile carpet in my living room I decided to install a wood laminate floor to cover part of my living space.
Laminate and vinyl planks can float over subfloors due to their tongue and groove installation process that locks the planks together. If only you could just slap a new floor on top of it right. If there is a layer of fluffy soft carpeting underneath it your floor will have quite a bit of bounce to it as you walk upon it.
Joy30150932 on Jan 03 2018 Best to remove the carpet and then do the floor. But after covering them with laminate flooring it is no longer possible to remove them. A laminate floor would be a really good solution here because you could lay down a very thin laminate underlayment which is usually like a very thin foam and then you put the flooring right on top of that and the foam will absorb any unevenness because of the glue that was there before and youll have a nice clean floor on top of it.
You cannot install laminate flooring on top of this type of underlayment as its too soft. I wouldnt recommend laying carpet over laminate as laminate is a shiny smooth surface and the carpet may moveslip and stretch over time. Additionally consider the height of your doors so that you dont have trouble opening your doors.
